Easter Sunrise: 2 Years in the Making

It was February of 2008. Jenn and I flew out to Tennessee to pray about planting a church somewhere. We didn’t know where or when or what planting a church really entailed but we felt called to do it. We had our eye on Jackson and Clarksville but had never really explored either city. We drove to Jackson thinking that was the place, but quickly felt like it wasn’t, so we hit up Clarksville. From the moment we drove into town, we loved Clarksville. We stayed the night, then explored the city the next day. One place we stopped was the McGregor Park Riverwalk. I still remember – it was just Jenn and I and as we stood in the amphitheater looking up at the scenery, we said, “This would be the perfect place for an Easter Sunrise Service!” Little did we know, 2 years later we’d be doing exactly that here in Clarksville with our 6-month old church plant, Awaken.

It was my first time actually preaching on Easter morning. Back in Albuquerque, Easter was always family day, so there were no youth services. I enjoyed the weekend off, but I always wanted to preach an Easter message. Today that happened. It was even more exciting than I had anticipated. We had a great turnout and couldn’t have asked for nicer weather. Over all, we felt like it couldn’t have gone any smoother!

Make sure to swing by awakenchurch.org to see all the pictures from today, but here are a few of my favorites…
