When God does something NEW

Just over a year ago, on a rainy Saturday night – September 19, 2009 – years of prayer became a reality. We opened our doors and held Awaken Church’s first ever church service! This Sunday marked one year and what a year it’s been!

We celebrated by bringing in Jimmy Needham, adding a second service for the day, then bringing in blow-up toys, face painting, cupcakes, ice cream, and a Jimmy concert to our parking lot that evening! It would have been a good-sized event for any church, but especially a small church like ours. I was blown away at how smoothly it went! The weather couldn’t have been nicer, we had plenty of hands to help, God gave me the message to share, and He even brought a guy to salvation that day, all of that without even a hiccup in the plans!

One thing that God has laid heavily on my heart over the last couple of weeks is the fact that even dwelling too much on the good things of the past can actually slow us down for what God has in the future. We loved looking back, but what we really need to do is look forward to what God has in store. We can’t always re-live the glory days, because in reality, the glory days are yet to come.

God has provided for us miraculously over the past year. He’s used tragedy to build us up and even open new doors of ministry for us. As great as the past year has been, if we’re not careful, our first year could be our best year. I won’t stand for that. We march ahead now even harder than we did before. I believe that God’s plan is unfolding before us as I type, and although He doesn’t  have to use us to reach people, He wants to use us!

I’m ready.

God has begun something new at Awaken Church. I’m humbled to be a part of it!
