Demystifying God’s Will

demystify“Finding God’s Will” – just that phrase makes it seem like God’s will is lost or that the whole process is some sort of cosmic scavenger hunt.

Some people act as though “finding God’s will for our lives” requires a secret decoder ring, night vision goggles and Nicholas Cage. Thank God, He’s made it a lot easier than that.

If you want to know God’s will for your life, do these 3 things…

BE PRAYERFUL.

You can’t expect to know what God wants if you’re not talking to Him about it. I know that sounds simple, but you’d be surprised how many people ask a pastor, ask their Facebook friends or roll the dice before they pray. Start with prayer, then keep praying. For the rest of your life.

And I’m not talking about apathetic prayer that never gets you off the couch. Pray anticipatory prayers that get you in the game! I meet Christians all the time who seem to be so busy praying that they miss the opportunities that are the answers to their prayers! That leads to the next part…

BE FAITHFUL.

Want God to put you work? Then get to work! Throughout the Bible, God calls and uses those are already faithful where they are. I’ve often heard it said that if you stand around waiting to be handed something big, you may never be handed anything at all. Faithfulness in the small things prepares you for faithfulness with the big things. Why would you expect God to give you Step 2 and 3 if you haven’t been faithful with Step 1? It’s not about the size of ministry, it’s about your faithfulness in ministry.

BE AVAILABLE.

God isn’t looking for ability. He’s looking for availability. He gave you your skills – He’s not impressed by them. But He can be glorified by them, if you’re willing to put them work when He says to, and in the way He says to. If you’re praying for God’s direction, then when He says GO, you had better be available.

That’s why this process starts and continues with prayer. Prayer prepares us for the answer.

THE BEST PART…

Here’s the best part: If you are currently prayerful, faithful and available, you don’t need to search any longer – you’re in God’s will right now!

No matter what your circumstances are or where you find yourself in life, keep praying, stay faithful and remain available. It’s the best place you can be.

  1. Good morning Kevin, I like your post,” Demystifying God’s will”. Proverbs 3:5 comes to mind. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Blessings, Granddad

  2. Knock and it will be open, seek and we shall find, we have not because we ask not………… To ask and not to believe is not to ask at all…… Like this blog……..
